Justin Timberlake was born in Memphis, Tennessee on January 31, 1981. Randall Timberlake and Lynn nee Bomar were his parents. He has British ancestry. His paternal grandfather, Charles L. Timberlake, was a Baptist minister. Timberlake was raised in the Baptist religion. Remaining still a Christian, Justin considers himself more "spiritual than religious".

Both of his parents remarried after being divorced about 1985. His mother remarried to Paul Harless, a banker, when Justin was aged 5. Timberlake performed the album's lead single, "SexyBack", at the opening of the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards.
