Joaquin Sabina has a flair for writing and music from his early ages. And he started writing and composing poems and music by the age of fourteen, while he was still in his primary school. There he became a member of a band called Merry Youngs and performed covered versions of songs by Little Richard, Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry and several others. After graduating from his high school, and went against the wishes of his father for his career and preferred to pursue music as his career.
Joaquin Sabina was exposed to the works of Cesar Vallejo and Pablo Neruda after he got himself enrolled in Philology of Granada and University of Philology. Soon after Sabina started exploring his talents as a writer on a much grander stage when he started writing for a magazine called Poesia 70. After going into an exile in London, Sabina finally started writing and singing songs in 1975. He started from local pubs and bars, and later he performed at Mexicano Taverna where former Beatles’ band member, George Harrison was celebrating his birthday. Later after the end of Franco’s dictatorship, Sabina returned back to his homeland.
After coming back to Spain, Sabina started working on his debut studio release called Inventario. The album was released in 1978, but didn’t get any attention at all. Joaquin Sabina didn’t get noticed until the release of first break through and #1 hit single titled Pongamos Que hablo de Madrid. The song was released as a lead single for his second album called malas companias. With this album and the single, Sabine attracted the kind of attraction he was looking for. Shortly after Sabina also released one of his live albums, along with his band members, which also helped him take the spot light. As malas companias got the ball rolling for him, Sabina kept on adding to his fan base popularity with his albums like 19 Dias y 500 Noches, Esta boca es mia and yo, mi, me, contigo. After going on hiatus due to his stroke, Sabina made his return to the stage with the release of Dimelo en la Calle. Joaquin Sabina also went on a concert tour with Joan Manuel Serrat in 2007, and also recorded a live CD of the tour. Following that, Sabina released his most recent studio work in 2009.
