Born on 10 th of July 1980, Jessica Simpson started
singing at an early age. Jessica first developed her
music skills in the local Baptist Church , where she
was a member of the church choir. When Jessica was 12,
she auditioned for the Mickey Mouse Club. Jessica's
talents took her all the way to the finals but regrettably,
she failed to win. The next year, during a church camp,
she sang Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You"
and an arrangement of "Amazing Grace". One of the guests
was the head of a tiny CCM label and was looking forward
to launch a gospel record label. He saw great promise
and profits in the voice of the young lady and signed
her. She spent next three years completing her debut
album but for the reason of label folding, the album
was never released.
While waiting for the album to be released, Jessica
began to tour with Christian Youth Conferences, sometimes
entertaining audiences of 20,000 people. She and her
father sold copies of the album after her performances.
One of the copies was sold to Tommy Mottola of Columbia
Records. He predicted that the teen girl has enough
potential to become a pop idol. In late 90's Jessica
Simpson signed a contract with Columbia Records.
On November 23, 1999, Simpson released her debut pop
album " Sweet Kisses" , reaching a peak of #25 on the
US Billboard 200 charts. The album made to the top 40
of the UK charts. It proved to be a success, selling
over 2 million copies in the US . Her first single,
"I Wanna Love You Forever" was a platinum-seller.
It reached the top 5 of the US Billboard Hot 100 singles
chart and the top 10 in Canada and the UK in late 1999.
Fame came pouring down from all over the world for Jessica
Simpson. But it was only a starter for her.
Her path for glory was paved by her next release. Jessica's
sophomore effort " Irresistible" , released on June
5, 2001, reached the top 10 of the Billboard 200 and
top 20 of the Canadian album charts. Between her second
and third albums, Simpson released a collection of remixes
entitled " This Is the Remix" on July 2, 2002. However,
the collection failed to even chart on the Billboard
200, suffering from lack of promotion.
On October 26, 2002, Jessica Simpson wed Nick Lachey,
live on television.
During the summer 2003, Jessica and her husband's reality
show "Newlywed" began airing on MTV. Though Jessica
was already a celebrity, the series really boosted her
fame and has a major hand in making her a true superstar.
Banking on the success of her new popularity, she appeared
on a variety show with Nick Lachey on the ABC, called
"the Nick and Jessica Variety Hour" on April 11, 2004.
Simpson unleashed her third album "In this Sky" on
19 August 2003. On a whole, the record featured a much
more mature sound compared to her earlier releases.
Though the album initially was not a huge success, it
got its chance to rebound on the charts when a special
collector's edition was released on March 2, 2004. After
the success of " Newlyweds" , many doors opened for
Simpson to branch out in her career. One way was by
creating her own line of beauty products called "Desert".
The show's success also gave Simpson the opportunity
to release an album of Christmas songs; the end product,
" Rejoyce: The Christmas Album" , appeared on November
23, 2004. The album was an over all success and amassed
millions of dollars for Jessica.
More recently, Jessica Simpson has made her way into
the world of acting. Her film debut in the " The Dukes
of Hazzard" is set to hit theaters in August 2005. Upcoming
projects for Simpson include a role in the film " Room
Service" , as well as "A Clothing Line" set to be released
by the end of 2005.
Jessica is boldly traveling down several fresh new
musical avenues. Her concert tickets are the hottest
ones in the town. Have a weekend treat with Jessica
Simpson singing live in concert!!
