Golden Gods Award Show Tickets Information
Much like the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Award Show, the Revolver Golden Gods also cater to heavy metal. The genre took off in the 60s, borrowing from blues rock and psychedelia but characterized by a much more macho, amplified, and distorted sound. “The World’s Loudest Rock Magazine” Revolver is behind the Golden Gods. The bi-monthly metal magazine features coverage of heavy metal and hard rock, although it had a more mainstream feel and reader base when it first started out in the spring of 2000. Special features include covering upcoming acts, national and international, and a recurring celebrity advice column where Vinnie Paul (member of hard rock band Hellyeah) answers queries with help from Lzzy Hale of Halestorm. Brandon Geist is the chief editor of the magazine published by South San Francisco based Future US media corporation (further owned by UK’s Future plc international publishing company), which specializes in targeted magazines and websites. In 2009, Revolver’s top brass decided on an annual awards show night to bolster fan interest and have a genre-specific ceremony to celebrate heavy metal and its top dogs.
Performers this time round at the April 11th event include Marilyn Manson, Korn, Slash, Evanescence, Sixx:A.M., Black Veil Brides, Trivium, and Yngwie Malmsteen. Marilyn Manson, deriving his name from two 60s icons in gorgeous actress Marilyn Monroe and mass murderer Charles Manson, is the true prince of darkness. While his grinding metal has been superlative, he has courted controversy with his outrageous image, lyrics portraying violence and religious slander, and a history of lawsuits. Nevertheless he has won great acclaim as part of Satan on Fire, Mrs. Scabtree, and Marilyn Manson, notching up three Platinum and two #1 albums. Two-time Grammy winners Korn will also blaze through the Golden Gods Award Show night. They have sold 35 million records worldwide with their diatribe-laden lyrics, and have collected eight multi-Platinum albums. The stage is set for British-American guitar legend Slash to bring the house down. As part of Guns N’ Roses, Velvet Revolver, and now a solo act, Slash’s steep riffs and rattling solos have seen him named the 2nd greatest Electric Guitar Player by Time while his legendary “Sweet Child O’ Mine” riff earned the nod as the #1 Riff from Total Guitar. Fronted by Amy Lee, Arkansas-based rock band Evanescence has achieved great mainstream success. Winning two Grammys, they are currently riding the success of their third self-titled album. Hollywood based metalcore act Black Veil Brides will also take to the stage. It is inspired by 80s glam metal, evident by flamboyant appearances, yet that doesn’t detract from hard-hitting compositions that have made it a musical force. Awards are handed out in 11 categories, including Best Guitarist, Drummer, Vocalist, Bassist, Live Band, International Band, Album of the Year, Comeback of the Year, Most Metal Athlete, Riff Lord, and Most Dedicated Fans. Fans can vote for most of these categories themselves as well, with panelists choosing the rest. The awards are usually preceded by a black carpet pre-show, after which prizes are handed out in each category and live performers add zing to the proceedings with their sets.
The 2009 inaugural Revolver Golden Gods Award Show featured a performing lineup of Megadeth, Killswitch Engage, Suicide Silence, All That Remains, Slipknot, and Hatebreed. In 2010, Fear Factory, Rob Zombie, The Devil Wears Prada, Dave Grohl, and As I Lay Dying performed. Avenged Sevenfold headed the stellar performing cast last year, with Alice Cooper, Loaded, Devildriver, and Volbeat also included. Los Angeles’s Club Nokia has always hosted the event, with the 7,100 capacity arena in L.A Live being the prime locale for its glitz and glam.
