Go Diego Go Live is an animated performance series that is meant for preschool children. The series commenced on September 6, 2005. Another character in the Go Diego Go Live is Alicia, Diego’s 11-year-old sister. Alicia is a computer whiz who is bilingual too. Her role is to direct animal rescue calls the center receives. Diego is assisted by Alicia in these rescues. Like Diego, Alicia is responsible and kind-hearted.
In many parts of the series, Diego hears animals crying out for help. By using gadgets and support from his friends, he takes off to rescue them. There are many interesting characters in this series that make it even more interesting. One in particular is Click, which is a camera that closes in on the location of the animal to be rescued. There is also Rescue Pack, which is an all important messenger bag that Diego wears; it can change into any object. The Bobo Brothers, which are 2 mischievous spider monkeys, also make the series interesting. There are some animals that appear time and again in the series because they are considered to be animal friends.
A striking similarity between Dora the Explorer and Go Diego Go Live is that both tend to teach Spanish to the viewers. However, in the latter there isn’t as much attention paid to Spanish. Instead, the focus seems to be more on teaching about various animals.
In one of the episodes called "The Great Dinosaur Rescue" Diego is seen with Alicia, Dora, and Baby Jaguar going into the past for the sake of saving a dinosaur. This provides you with an idea about the extent of learning, the effort, etc. that is depicted in this series.
Coming back to the Spanish language enhancement in Go Diego Go Live, there are a range of songs in this language that are used. These songs play an important role in enhancement young viewers’ vocabulary.
While the education influence in the series is sustained, Diego is pestered from time to time by the "The Bobo Brothers". Nothing matches the type of trouble that this mischievous pair spells. Each time, they have their fun, laughter and games, and escape. This is quite amusing for the young ones watching this series.
One important thing to note during the series when the Bobo Brothers are having their fun, Diego encourages participation on the part of the young viewers. He does this through urging them to shout out "Freeze Bobos!", which is a way of getting the monkeys to stop their mischief.
