During the late eighties Dave Matthews had gained reasonable singing experience while performing with local bands. He hatched the idea of forming his own band along with some of his co-stars including Boyd Tinsley, Peter Griesar, Stefan Lessard, Carter Beauford and LeRoj Moore. The popularity of the band’s unique compositions spread like fire. The fan base grew rapidly and clubs started to fill up with audience when the five group members would perform. Soon, Dave Matthews band toured to different cities including New York, Pennsylvania, Washington and Carolina. The fan following was growing at an incredible rate and the group started to open up for the famous music stars at the big venues. In 1993 they released ‘Remember Two Things’, their first album which was followed by the studio album ‘Under the Table and Dreaming’. The album peaked at #11 and developed international fan base. Matthews wrote most of the songs himself and dedicated the album to his sister who was murdered the same year. The single ‘What Would You Say’ became the most popular hit from this album and earned the band its first Grammy nomination.
 
In 1995 Dave Matthews Band made its television debut by appearing on the ‘Late Show with David Letterman’. The same year it was featured in other similar shows on TV, including ‘The Tonight Show with Jay Leno’. In order to entertain its fans in Europe, the band went for an extensive European tour. DMB’s second studio album ‘Crash’ turned out to be a bigger hit which topped the charts at #2. The year 1997 started with a Grammy Award for the song ‘So Much to Say’. The band continued to produce music keeping in mind the fans’ expectations. With the next album reaching the highest ranking on the US charts, the most successful era for the band started.
 
Ever since the release of its third studio album ‘Before These Crowded Streets’ in 1997, all the six studio albums have hit the top ranks on one or more charts. The latest album ‘Away From the World’ was released in September 2012 and once again hit the top spot as expected. The band has released fifty live albums and 8 studio albums. Dave Matthews sometimes performs as a solo artist as well. He has produced a few solo albums and singles in collaboration with other singers such as Kenny Chesney and Tim Raynolds. Apart from this, he regularly appears in films and TV shows. In 2010, the Dave Matthews Band was named as the ‘Biggest Ticket Seller’ of the decade.
