DAngelo Tickets Information
Son of a Pentecostal preacher, Archer started his career in 1991 with singing. His first song ‘U Will Know’ became an unexpected hit and he decided to start working for a studio album. Signing a recording contract with EMI Records, the multi-instrumentalist produced his debut album ‘Brown Sugar’ in 1995. It was certified as platinum and charted a hit single ‘Lady’ which topped the Billboard Hot 100 at #10. Dangelo was obliged to have sold more than 1.5 million copies of his first album which brought his way commercial popularity. The album received excellent reviews from the critics and hit the US R&B charts at number four. Other popular singles from this album include ‘Me and Those Dreamin’ Eyes of Mine’ and ‘Brown Sugar’.
Dangelo covered plenty of songs to pay homage to his favorite soul artists such as Al Green and Marvin Gaye. He pinned a few songs with a number of guitarists including Mark Whitfield, Charlie Hunter and Roy Hargrove. He incorporated a little jazz and hip hop style in his singing during this time. Soon he found Raphael Saadiq (Tony! Toni! Toné!‘s lead singer) to be a perfect partner for his mega hit single ‘Untitled (How Does It Feel)’. Another leading single ‘Left & Right’ from the same album was also released prior to the album release. Both these singles were included in Dangelo’s second studio album ‘Voodoo’ which he recorded with Virgin Records in the year 2000. With the album reaching the #1 position on the US Charts, the neo soul artist became one of the most influential celebrities of that time. Dangelo’s songwriting abilities and strength of his vocals were proved when he won two Grammy Awards in a row for the Best Male R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Album. The video for the single ‘Untitled’ still remains the most famous and memorable video produced by him.
During the 2000’s Dangelo’s interest seemed to shift towards production and he didn’t record any new material for the whole decade. But he was featured with other artists on various occasions throughout this time. Dangelo would also cover old soul songs regularly, the most famous covers include ‘She's Always in My Hair’, ‘Feel Like Makin' Love’, ‘Heaven Must Be Like This’ and ‘Sugarfoot’. Both his previous albums became two of the Most Excellent R&B Albums Of The Last 15 Years. In 2008, he came up with a compilation ‘The Best So Far…’ and it was much appreciated by his fans.
With the beginning of year 2012, Dangelo’s fans found him occupied with an extensive tour named as ‘Occupy Music Tour’ in which he is featuring some of the songs from his upcoming music album ‘James River’.
