Coachella or in its full form Coachella Valley Music and Arts festival is a three day music festival that is held every year in Indio, California. It is laid down on the deserted fields Colorado Desert, giving it a deserted set up.

First ever Coachella festival, for two days, was held on 9th and 10th October, 1999. 3 months before the Coachella was held Woodstock 99 festival was held which came out to be a big failure, the biggest difficult the attendees faced was the expensive rate of water bottles in that extreme temperature.

Just not to repeat the same mistake Coachella offered free water bottles to the attendees, which were around 25000 in number. The event ended up fine with the headlining acts of the bands like Tool, Chemical Brothers and the Rage against the Machine. The difficulty that fans faced this time wasn't of water bottles as it was back on Woodstock 99 Festival; it was rather of scorching heat on that deserted venue. Hence the event ended up with a net loss.

Due to their previous loss the promoters of Coachella didn't held the event in the year 2000. The second Coachella festival was held on April, 2001. Due to the attendees complaint of blistering weather the promoters moved the event to April, when the weather is rather pleasant. This time promoters were at threat of facing another loss since they couldn't find any band for their headlining act. But eventually with they got lucky and were able to bring the re-united Jane's Addiction for their headlining act.

The next two days Coachella festival was held in 2002, was a success to some extent as it had good headlining acts featuring the reunion of Siouxsie and the Banshee's with Björk and Oasis and ended up without any complaints.

The next Coachella festival was held in 2003, featuring the headlining acts of the bands like Red hot chili peppers, reunion of the Stooges and the Iggy Pop as well as the Beastie boys. This 2003's event attracted huge number of attendees. Hence Coachella raised its awareness among fans globally.

2004's Coachella festival came out to be best out of all of their previous events. The event was sold out with number of attendees reaching up to 50,000. The event's headliners featured Radiohead, the Cure and the reunion of the Pixies with number of other famous bands. Since then Coachella is known to be a sound revenue generating event.

2007's Coachella was once again extended to three days i.e. Friday to Sunday. 2007's line up for the major bands included Red hot Chili Peppers, reunion of the Rage against the Machine and Björk. Festival also offers different visual and artistic sculptures. A number of visual artist have also been noticed on different Coachella's, namely the Cyclecide and the Do-lab etc.

The headlining line up of bands for the 2008 Coachella was declared in a press conference on 21 January 2008, held in Mexico. The line up included the bands like Animal Collective scheduled for Saturday and Les Savy and Man Man both scheduled for Friday and Saturday, correspondingly.
