The first orchestra was played in 1891 under the name ‘ Chicago Orchestra’ . The name of the orchestra went through a series of alterations along with changes in the music directors and finally in 1913 it was renamed as Chicago Symphony Orchestra. The directors that have honored the orchestra with their exceptional skills include Fritz Reiner, Jean Martinon and Daniel Banerboim among a list of others. Currently Ricardo Mutti is the 10 th music director of the orchestra.
Apart from the extraordinary music directors leading the orchestra, it has been conducted by a number of guest artists as well. They include John Williams, Richard Strauss,Michael Tilson Thomas and Aaron Copland among others.
Chicago Symphony Orchestra has witnessed different audiences in two eras.
