Canadian Brass quintet history dates back to the year 1970 when it was founded by two famous music personalities Gene Watts and Dr. Charles Daellenbach. These two seasoned artists have been performing regularly with the quintet but Watts stopped performing in 2010. The original 1970 lineup included Watts (trombone), Daellenbach (tuba), Stuart Laughton and Fred Mills (trumpet), and Graeme Page (horn). The current lineup is changed except for Daellenbach, Achilles Liarmakopoulos replaced Watts on trombone and the rest group includes Brandon Ridenour and Chris Coletti (trumpet) and Eric Reed (horn). Canadian Brass has been touring extensively across the globe and along with that they continue to record and release studio albums. In a career spanning over four decades the quintet has released over eighty DVD’s and CD’s. Canadian Brass has recorded with some of the world’s top music companies like Philips, Sony, BMG, Decca and RCA. The quintet is not only famous for its music but also for their distinctive formal attire as all the group members wear white shoes and black suits.
The Canadian Brass hold this unique distinction that it is probably the only brass quintet that has performed at all the famous concert halls around the world. The quintet even went to China as a goodwill ambassador during the mid 70’s. Canadian Brass performed at the very popular Carnegie Hall in the year 1979 becoming the first ever solo chamber ensemble to perform at this venue. The Brass performs music of diverse genres such as classical, jazz, pop and baroque.
