Brian Regan is one of the best comedians performing today. He is indeed a comedy genius. His comedy, big enough for everyone, sharp enough for you, keeps audiences coming back time and again to see what's new in the comedy world of Brian Regan.
Regan was a huge fan of Johnny Carson in his early ages. Later on when Steve Martin appeared on the scene his fascination with stand-up comedy really kicked in. Regan was very much impressed with Martin's silly, but smart, comedic genius.
Regan started efforts in order to materialize his dream of becoming a comedian when he was at Heilderberg College in Tiffin, Ohio. As a freshman, He could not concentrate on his major - accounting and he left far behind. He knew that he could never catch up. He was very much worried. However, Regan went to his football coach for advice. Knowing Regan's abilities as a funny guy, the coach recommended the Communication and Theater Arts Department. It was within this world that Regan began his quest for a career in comedy. From speech class to plays, Regan quest his thirst for performing and getting laughs.
After the completion of the period at Heidelberg in the early 80's, Regan got an opportunity of performing at a small comedy club in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. This club was an hour's drive from his hometown of Miami. Being a new comer, Regan was much more than just a comic - he was a busboy, a dishwasher, and a cook. He did full justice with his job of amusing people during his job as a comic. Oftentimes, Brian had to wrap up his shows to flip burgers for the people in the crowd. They might not have liked those early jokes, but boy did they love those burgers! Over a two and a half year period, Regan actually became a better comic than cook. It was time to hit the road.
The comedy world saw boom in 80's and Regan was successful in getting great work opportunities as a comic during the mid-80's. Clubs like "Giggles" and "Sir Laughs a Lot" welcomed the budding comic as he traveled about, first by bus, then by car, then ... by airplane.
In 1986, Regan moved to New York City, where he stayed for a long time until 1994 in order to have a solid comic base for himself. During this period, He performed successfully and also improved his skills of comedy by learning the difference between getting laughs, and getting good laughs. Regan kept his comedy broad enough to work anywhere in the country, but interesting enough to make a name for himself in the demanding New York City scene. His long time struggle finally proved fruitful when he won $10,000.00 in the K-Rock - Miller Lite Funniest Person in New York contest in 1998.
Winning this grand title proved to be turning point in his career. Regan was honored with a headliner status and began nailing down national TV appearances: MTV Half Hour Comedy Hour, Pat Sajak, Arsenio Hall, and ... every comic's dream - The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. By the early 90's, Regan had earned the reputation of one of the best stand-up comedians in the country.
From then until now, Brian Regan's highlights have included his own specials on both Showtime and Comedy Central. He is also being featured in Coca Cola's Concession Stand Comedy in movie theaters throughout the country, regular appearances on both Conan O'Brien and the Late Show with David Letterman, and opening regularly in the nation's best theaters for Jerry Seinfeld.
