The idea for Band from TV was coined by Greg Grunberg while he was performing at the House of Blues with a group of various celebrities. This performance had gained quite a lot of attention and sparked interest of fans of each celebrity. Grunberg himself has a fan following from playing the police detective in “Heroes,” Eric Weiss on “Alias” and Captain Seth Norris on “Lost.” Entrepreneurship was not new to him; he has experience with “Yowza!!” which was a widely downloaded mobile application.

Grunberg then made a lot of guest appearances on different shows to make connections and properly start the band. During this process, he met Hugh Laurie, star of “House.” Soon after, James Denton , Adrian Pasdar and Bob Guiney joined in, and Band from TV was formed. Each celebrity in the band supports a different charity.

James Denton was also quite popular for playing the plumber and Teri Hatcher’s love interest in the show “Desperate Housewives.” He had experience playing and composing music with the Chicago Theatre Company. He was also included in the 2004 issue of People Magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive.”

Hugh Laurie had gained popularity for starring as Dr. Gregory House in the hit show, “House”, for which he has earned Golden Globes and Emmy nominations.

For Grunberg, the charity of choice is the “National Epilepsy Foundation.” This is because his son himself has suffered from epilepsy. This charity has existed since 1968, works to normalize their patient’s lives. They money from charity goes into research and development. Grunberg saw the band as a fruitful way to generate a good amount of money for charity. Each celebrity also brings with them a different set of fans which expands the total audience of the band.

Conversely, James Denton is in the band to support the “Conservation Fund,” a charity dedicated to protecting the land and water in the US and supporting sustainable development to save the environment. Bob Guiney wants to benefit “The Art of Elysium.” This is a charity to benefit artists. He also supports “Children’s Hospital LA” which is a hospital for critically ill children. Apart from the regulars, other actors including Hayden Panettiere, Zachary Levi, Bonnie Somerville, David Anders, Lester Holt, Jorge Garcia and Brad Savage sometimes also take part in Band from TV as guest performers.
