Band from TV is a charity band with members being actors from various American television series. The band records and performs cover songs, donating the money generated from sales and shows to different charities. Currently, the regular members of the band include Greg Grunberg, Scott Grimes, James Denton, Bob Guiney, Jesse Spencer, Adrian Pasdar, and Hugh Laurie. Greg Grunberg plays drums. He is most known for starring in shows like “Felicity” and “Alias” and the NBC show, “Heroes.” James Denton plays guitar and is known from the television show, “Desperate Housewives.” Bob Guiney of “The Bachelor” fame sings for the band. Jesse Spencer of FOX’s “House” plays violin. Also in the band are Adrian Pasdar from “Desperate Housewives” and “Heroes,” and Scott Grimes from “ER” and “American Dad.” Other actors, musicians and athletes join the band from time to time.

They will be on a tour of the US and Canada this year to raise money for various charities. Band from TV tickets, particularly of the Avlon show are now available with other announces dates and venues.
The idea for Band from TV was coined by Greg Grunberg while he was performing at the House of Blues with a group of various celebrities. This performance had gained quite a lot of attention and sparked interest of fans of each celebrity. Grunberg himself has a fan following from playing the police detective in “Heroes,” Eric Weiss on “Alias” and Captain Seth Norris on “Lost.” Entrepreneurship was not new to him; he has experience with “Yowza!!” which was a widely downloaded mobile application.
Grunberg then made a lot of guest appearances on different shows to make connections and properly start the band. During this process, he met Hugh Laurie, star of “House.” Soon after, James Denton , Adrian Pasdar and Bob Guiney joined in, and Band from TV was formed. Each celebrity in the band supports a different charity.
James Denton was also quite popular for playing the plumber and Teri Hatcher’s love interest in the show “Desperate Housewives.” He had experience playing and composing music with the Chicago Theatre Company. He was also included in the 2004 issue of People Magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive.”
Hugh Laurie had gained popularity for starring as Dr. Gregory House in the hit show, “House”, for which he has earned Golden Globes and Emmy nominations.
For Grunberg, the charity of choice is the “National Epilepsy Foundation.” This is because his son himself has suffered from epilepsy. This charity has existed since 1968, works to normalize their patient’s lives. They money from charity goes into research and development. Grunberg saw the band as a fruitful way to generate a good amount of money for charity. Each celebrity also brings with them a different set of fans which expands the total audience of the band.
Conversely, James Denton is in the band to support the “Conservation Fund,” a charity dedicated to protecting the land and water in the US and supporting sustainable development to save the environment. Bob Guiney wants to benefit “The Art of Elysium.” This is a charity to benefit artists. He also supports “Children’s Hospital LA” which is a hospital for critically ill children. Similarly, Bonnie Somerville wants to give to the “Child Abuse Prevention Program” and the “National Coalition Against Domestic Violence.” Jesse Spencer wants to aid “The Indiana University-Kenya Fund”.
Apart from the regulars, other actors including Hayden Panettiere, Zachary Levi, Bonnie Somerville, David Anders, Lester Holt, Jorge Garcia and Brad Savage sometimes also take part in Band from TV as guest performers.
Band from TV played their first show together at the 58 th Primetime Emmy Awards after party. Then, in 2008, they appeared on the “American Idol” special, “Idol Gives Back.” Here, Teri Hatcher sang the Carrie Underwood hit, “Before He Cheats.” They also performed on the “Tonight Show with Jay Leno.” In 2010, they performed at the Avlon for Ronnie Lippin for the benefit of the “Ronnie Lippin Cancer Information Resource Line.” Songs performed at this event included Charlie Robinson’s “John O’Reilly”.Famous tracks performed by Band from TV consist of “You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” “Viva Las Vegas,” “The Letter,” “You Really Got Me,” “Papa Loved Mama,” and “Piece of My Heart.” Grunberg has described the experience with the band as simply being good friends jamming together for a good cause.
The revenue from all Band from TV tickets sold will be given to the mentioned charities and others with whom a partnership is still under the works.
