The Austin City Limits Music Festival is a three-day annual music and art festival in Texas's Zilker Park. It attracts a crowd of about 65,000 visitors each day by bringing together more than 130 bands on eight stages, including rock, country, folk, indie, Americana, hip-hop, reggae, and bluegrass. The festival is produced by Capital Sports & Entertainment and Charles Attal Presents. The Austin City Limits Music Festival joined Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and Coachella as the United States’ premier rock festivals in a very short time.

Relationship to television series
For many years the historic Austin City Limits television series focused on Texas singer/songwriters, country and folk performers, and instrument specialists. As the award-winning television series now resembles the Festival lineup, this is changing and spotlights artists of every musical genre. Willie Nelson, Sheryl Crow, Coldplay, Modest Mouse, The Flaming Lips, Jack Johnson, Etta James, Wilco, Trey Anastasio, Franz Ferdinand, John Prine, Keith Urban, Ben Harper, Elvis Costello, Nickel Creek are the performers who have appeared on both the PBS show and the Festival in recent years.

Weather
Although in Austin the average high for the last two weeks of September is 88 degrees Fahrenheit, the highs for 2004 during the festival were 96, 96, and 93. In 2005 the highs were 98, 99, and 107. In 2006, ACL, working with the City of Austin, installed a massive irrigation system to eliminate dust concerns during the Festival. Due to conflicts with hotel room availability on UT football weekends, increased chance of rain, and the reduced chance of booking bands on summer tour the organizers do not want to move the festival into October. The festival does allow attendees to bring 2 factory sealed water bottles, and has reasonably priced food and drinks compared to other festivals.

Location advantages
Austin City Limits is the must-see event in Texas for rock, indie, blues, Americana and almost all other music fans. Dallas and Houston, major metropolitan areas, are each within a 3 hour drive of Austin and have no similar events. After selling 75,000 tickets on Saturday in 2004, organizers capped attendance at 65,000 for 2005. While a trip to Bonnaroo or the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival most likely involves camping, Zilker Park is in the middle of the city and Austin has plentiful cheap hotel rooms.

Highlights:
Ben Kweller suffered a nosebleed during his set. He attempted to stem the flow by inserting a tampon, thrown to him by an audience member, into his nostril. The tampon expanded painfully and then he removed it. Kweller performed two more songs until he had to leave the stage. The next day when The Flaming Lips performed, lead singer Wayne Coyne asked the audience to throw tampons at him to help mop up his signature fake blood. It continued to rain tampons on the band for well over two songs. To reach out to fans to educate, inform and inspire, the Austin City Limits Music Festival provides a great opportunity. This year we will again focus on the environment. To showcase select local non-profit organizations that relate to this effort there will be a special area within the festival grounds.
