Aretha Franklin Tickets Information

Aretha Franklin
Aretha Franklin has the privilege and the sole distinction of being the first lady to ever be inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She is rightly acclaimed as the Queen of Soul with her mellifluous voice and the songs that have enthralled a million hearts over the course of the last fifty years. Her voice has a persona that is very personal and can vamoose straight into the inner parts of the soul. Critics have even labeled her as the Soul Toucher. One of the distinct qualities of this singer is her passionate exuberance in her pitch and vocal cords along with a sensational grip and control over the rhythm and vicissitudes of harmonious variances. Record companies have labeled her voice as an instrument of music and a rarity in the common music arena. Primarily, Arentha Franklin voice and songs are an amalgamation of gospel, blues and black music heritage. She stands amongst the crowds of millions as a singer that speaks volumes for the black community that have being facing an abundances of variances in life.

One can easily grasp the reasoning behind then names orchestrated in her attributions by listening to any of her songs. She is a soul spellbinder and can be rightfully be acclaimed as the best female vocalist of the century. Arthena Franklin was born in 1942 in Memphis and but grew up in Detroit. She was the lovely daughter of Rev. C.L. Franklin who served as pastor at the New Bethel Baptist Church. Her background was of a religious magnitude and her father was a very well known figure amongst the community at large. Her father was also a very influential man with links to the great Martin Luther King. Her singing began from the church and she became a weekly singer in the gospel sessions ensuring a soothing experience for the people who came only to enjoy the voice of a young girl later on to be proclaimed as one of the best singers of all times. She was also heavily influenced by her aunt, Clara Ward, who was also a renowned singer of sacred music during that particular time. Her aunt became her mentor and was able to guide her on her path to music and fame stardom. She was only 14 when she recorded her first album.

During her early years of music, Aretha was also greatly influenced by blues music of Billie Holiday as well as jazz lyrics of Sarah Vaughn. Her personal favorite in gospel has always been Mahalia Jackson). All these great musicians of that time gave Aretha the ignition and dreams to capture throughout her later life. In 1960, Aretha signed with Columbia Records and enjoyed a long and tedious journey of 6 consecutive years with the record company. During her sojourn, she recorded ten records that could not convince the music lovers and the music industry of her success and vocal power. It was a hit and run activity for Aretha working closely with great musicians and producers to search for her identity. Different music formats and styles were tried yet none could provide and conclude a true differentiator in the market for this young singer. In actuality, it was the other way around. The Columbia Records was a white soul production house that could not focus and concentrate on the originality of the singer and kept her off her true path of blues and black heritage music. Pop music and hip hop was not the elevation that Aretha had in mind. Those six years did allow Aretha time and experience to search within her own soul and focus on the powers of her spirit. Irrespective of the fact that no records could claim success, she left the record company fully saturated with scenarios and experiences that honed her skills and identified her true originality. Though Columbia Records did not make her a success, her amazing voice did capture the attention of other sound record companies. Record companies were all lined up to offer her an entrance into their world immediately after she left Columbia Records. Jerry Wexler was waiting in the wings to sign Franklin when her contract with Columbia expired and that is exactly what he was able to do. In 1966, Aretha joined Atlantic records. Jerry Wexler had identified her talent and the record company successfully gave her the platform that she direly needed. 1967 to 1972 were the golden years for both Arentha Franklin and the music company. Her very first single from the record company titled “I Never Loved a Man (the Way I Loved You)” became a smoldering success and unleashed the full force of Franklin’s mezzo-soprano. The song became an immediate hit and started the movement of Aretha Franklin pathway to success. This song was also the title of her first album.

Other great songs like “Respect”, “Do Right Woman – Do Right Man” all attributed to the overall success of her first album. And even today her first album stands out as one of the most bizarre and sophisticated soul album of all times. She was able to introduce the spirit of her essence in the entire audience and capturing the music world by her tunes and her vocal commitment to soul searching and an experience that music lovers were going crazy about. Sequential successful records soon followed that kept on growing the overall ratings of the gospel singer. Her next three albums - Aretha Arrives (1967), Lady Soul (1968) and Aretha Now (1968) - included “Chain of Fools,” “Think,” “Baby, I Love You,” “Since You’ve Been Gone (Sweet Sweet Baby),” and a soulful rendering of Carole King’s “A Natural Woman.” Others great albums that came along were Spirit in the Dark (1970); Young, Gifted and Black (1972); Live at Fillmore West (1971); and Amazing Grace. The albums took pride in black heritage and women empowerment.

Her lengthy tenure with Atlantic came to an end in 1979 after twelve years and nineteen albums. It was time to move on, both in regards to the types of songs as well as the record label depicting her as the soul of the generation. The 1980’s was a completely different ball game for Aretha. She started mixing tunes and lyrics and created hits like “Freeway of Love” and “Who’s Zoomin’ Who.” In 1987 Franklin had the second Number One hit of her career - “I Knew You Were Waiting (for Me),” a duet with George Michael - which came exactly twenty years after she topped the chart with “Respect.” In 1989, Aretha Franklin won the Grammy Award in the “Best Soul Gospel Album, Female” category. And in 1994, Aretha became the youngest recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors. And finally in 1997, she was inducted into the NAACP’s Hall of Fame at the annual Image Awards.
