Born with the birth name, A.S. Dileep Kumar, in Madras India, this January born opened his eyes in this world in 1966. His love affair with music began from a tender age and was taking classical piano lessons by the time he turned four. His father K.A Shekhar was a successful film musician himself and following his footsteps AR Rahman quit studies when he was sixteen and set off to establish his musical career. He began as a full time session musician on sound tracks under a popular South Indian composer. He soon thought that it was time to make some advancement and so tried out his hand in television commercials, composing three hundred jingles in just five years.
Today he has built his own in-house studio by the name, Panchathan Record Inn at Chennai. It is said to be India's most sophisticated and high tech studios.
