Hailing from Raleigh area, Alesana
is a metal core, hard rock band based in North Carolina. In 2004, the members of the band got together and started singing at Baltimore, Maryland. The band was officially assembled in Raleigh, North Carolina in October of 2004. The founding members of the band were Shawn Milke, Dennis Lee, Steven Tomany, Daniel Magnuson and Patrick Thompson . The band’s title, “Alesana
” comes from the place where Patrick Thompson and Shawn Milke lived while they were in Baltimore; the place was Aliceanna St. at Felts Point. In 2005 the band signed with “Tragic Hero Records” and released their very first EP by the name “Try This with Your Eyes Closed”, which sold about 3000 copies.

Alesana started touring around the United States after the release of the EP. They also participated in “Cornerstone Festival”. By the end of 2005, Will Anderson was added to the band in place of Daniel Magnuson. 2006 started for Alesana with the addition of a new band member, Jeremy Bryan , the drummer, in place of Will Anderson. The year also brought another addition to their lineup as Adam Ferguson ; the guitarist was added to the list. Their first studio album “On Frail Wings of Vanity and Wax” came out in the summer of the same year under production of Kit Walters.
In 2006 Alesana signed with “Fearless Records”, re-releasing their LP with it in March of 2007. The album received mixed comments and critiques. They also released the video of their song “Ambrosia”. An acoustic version of their song “Apology” was also released the same year, the song was added to the “Punk Goes Acoustic 2”. The same year Steven Tomany also left the band and Shane Crump, former bassist for “Your Name In Vain” was introduced in his place. Alesana participated in the “Warped Tour” of 2007 and 2010. Earlier in 2008, their album “On Frail Wings of Vanity and Wax” made it to #44 at Billboard “Heatseekers” chart.
On the June 3 rd 2008, Alesana released their second album “Where Myth Fades to Legend”, which made it to Billboard 200 at #96 and at #13 on Billboard “Hard Rock Album”. They arranged a tour the same year with “Our Last Night”, “The Chariot”, “Sky Eats Airplane” and “Lovehatehero”. The album also featured Shawn Milke’s sister Melissa in the vocals. During their session with the Warped Tour in 2008, Shane Crump had to drop out due to some domestic issues and was temporarily replaced with Jake Campbell . When Crump returned, Campbell was made a permanent rhythm guitarist.
Alesana released “Punk Goes Pop 2” in 2009; the album includes a cover of Justin Timberlake’s “What Goes Around… Comes Around”. In July of 2009, Shawn announced that they have started working on their upcoming album titled “The Emptiness”. On 19 th of August he tweeted that the work on the album has finished, and will be released soon. The band was awarded “Best Hardcore/Screamo Band” at Rock on Request Awards in late 2009. Their album “The Emptiness” was finally released on January 26 th 2010 and made it to Billboard 200 at #68.
Alesana signed with “Epitaph Records” on November 1 st 2010. With the label they started working on the new album with production by Kris Crummett . Their song “A Gilded Masquerade” was featured on Alternative Press on August 24 th of 2011. The video of their song “A Forbidden Song” was streamed at Buzznet.com on September 20 th of 2011. The band released their fourth studio album “A Place Where the Sun is Silent” on October 18 th of 2011. Alesana have been seen around in many tours and contests.
