Air Supply Tickets Information
Air Supply - a soft-rock duo who gave successful hit-tracks worldwide through the late 70s and early 80s, comprises of English guitarist and vocalist Graham Russell and Australian lead vocalist Russell Hitchcock and Criston Barker.
With their well-organized ensemble, sweet ballads, the Australian soft-rock group presented seven straight Top Five singles. Initially, the duo comprised of vocalists Russell Hitchcock and Graham Russell, while other members came through the group over the years, yet they only functioned as backing vocalists and added little to the group's flavor.
Hitchcock and Russell met while performing at the production of Jesus Christ Superstar in Sydney, Australia 1976. The two singers developed a partnership and with the addition of four supporting musicians -- keyboardist Frank Esler-Smith, guitarist David Moyse, bassist David Green, and drummer Ralph Cooper, collectively forming Air Supply.
For several years, the group was famous only within the Australian premises, earning one significant hit single, "Love and Other Bruises", until the late '70s, when Rod Stewart called them for his opening act on a North American tour. Air Supply signed a record contract with Arista in 1980, releasing their first album by the end of the year. The debut - Lost in Love, was a major success in the U.S., selling over two million copies and generating the hit singles "Lost in Love," "All Out of Love," and "Every Woman in the World." The following year, their second album, The One That You Love, was released. The title song became their only number one hit and it also featured two other Top Ten hits, "Here I Am (Just When I Thought I Was Over You)" and "Sweet Dreams." With their third album, 1982's Now and Forever, achieved tepid success, with only one Top Ten hit, "Even the Nights Are Better," and the other two singles, "Young Love" and "Two Less Lonely People in the World," reached the bottom of the Top 40. Air Supply released a Greatest Hits collection in 1983, featuring a new single, "Making Love Out of Nothing at All", which sent two weeks at no#2, while the album rose to no#7 and successfully sold over four million copies.
Two years later, they released Air Supply, their fourth album, which featured the no#19 single "Just As I Am," yet with a sinking fame, the album failed to go platinum. Hearts in Motion (1986) was even less successful, peaking at no#84 and spending only nine weeks on the charts. With a disappointing career, Air Supply broke up. Hitchcock and Russell reunited in 1991, releasing Earth Is..., but the album failed to make the charts compared to 1993's Vanishing Race and 1995's News From Nowhere. With the new millennium, the bands first studio album was launched, followed by a summer tour in support of Yours Truly.
Air Supply's 1982 single "Even The Nights Are Better" held an unofficial, chart record in the United States, which after reaching #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 in September 1982, the song fell to #6, and then from #6 all the way to #42, making it the song to become the biggest single-week drop-out of the Top 40 during the "classic" era of the American Top 40.
Air Supply has often been compared to the 90s musical duo Savage Garden, since both the duos were Aussies and sang mostly love songs.
Air Supply Vocalist Graham Russell lately made an appearance in Believe The Movie, a comedy about Multi Level Marketing.
In late 2006, Comcast released a TV commercial which spoofed the 1980 "All Out of Love" video.
