Upper Darby Township that was once a part of Darby Township was founded on August 30, 1736 as a result of its split from the Darby Township and was settled by a religious group of Friends of Quakers. Upper Darby's history originates back from 1653 when the area was initially inhabited by Swedes that were about 100 in number. But the population in the Upper Darby increased pretty fast, since Upper Darby was home to several streams and creeks due to which mill trade became the most common occupation in that area and gradually increasing its population to 5000 by 1890. Upper Darby was on 7th spot among the highly populated municipalities across the state of Pennsylvania in 1960's but presently Upper Darby Township is the largest municipality in Delaware County and is ranked 5th amongst the most populated municipalities across Pennsylvania. According to most recent American Census record of 2000, total population of Upper Darby comprised of 81,821 people. Till 1900's the main occupation of the descendants of the Upper Darby was weaving and textile. The sudden burst of textile industry across Upper Darby was seen after 1830, when most of the old mills were utilized in the process of cloth making. That gave a major boost to the textile industry not only in Upper Darby but its surrounding areas as well, however in 1843; all of these mills were demolished by a flood that destroyed everything near the streams and creeks.

Equipped with all the modern facilities including air conditioning and free parking, the Performing Arts Center is few minutes apart from the City Center and the Main Line. The musical is scheduled for one show on July 9, two shows on July 10 and one Show on July 11. Following Peter Pan is another Children's musical, Elliot and The Magic Bed, on 16 July, 17 July (2 Shows) and 18 July.

Later on July 23, July 24 and July 25, the Performing Arts Center will be hosting Alice in the Wonderland, Jr. with two shows on July 24. Pinocchio, A Real Boy is another musical for children that would be staged on July 30 and Jul 31 (2 Shows). That series of events don't just end with the end of July, on August 1 the arts center would be hosting Pinocchio, A Real Boy and My Favorite Year on the same day and My Favorite Year on August 2 as well. Following these events is School house Rock Live, Jr. which is considered to be one fun educational ride for the kids. The show would be staged on August 6, August 7 (2 Shows) and August 8. Also on August 8 My Favorite Year would be staged yet again, with another show on August 9. Some other events of August include Willy Wonka Jr. that will be held on August 13, August 14 (2 Shows) and August 15. In Fact Upper Darby's Performing arts center has a lot to offer for kids during summer vacations.
