It is also home to the Mitchel Athletic Complex which hosts the Long Island Rough Riders, an amateur soccer team, and the Long Island Lizards of Major League Lacrosse.

The Atlantic League of Professional Baseball is also looking into having a team in Uniondale. This will only go through if the Coliseum renovation and redevelopment starts, but as of now, there is not going to be a team in the foreseeable future. A team in Uniondale would make a rival for the Long Island Ducks, who play in Central Islip, New York.

Uniondale was also home to one-third of WWF's WrestleMania 2. New York Islanders, professional ice hockey team is one of five teams in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). The Islanders play in the Nassau Veterans Coliseum in Uniondale, New York. Uniondale is on Long Island, the island from which the team has taken its name. The team jersey is blue and orange.

Schooling
Located on the beautiful south shore of Long Island, the Uniondale Public School district comprises of five elementary schools, two middle schools, and one high school.

African/African-American Historical Museum
The African/African-American Historical Museum is dedicated to preserving the history and culture of Africa and African Americans. It is located in a 3 story house in Fort Wayne and houses important artifacts relevant to the study of African culture's influence on the US. It is located just three blocks east of the Botanical Conservatory.

Science Central
Science Central is an interactive, family-oriented facility for children and adults It is built on the old city power plant. Exhibits include ocean pools, parachute drops, weather stations, moon walks, and mock stores. It's located on the outskirts of Lawton Park and west of Griswold Playlot.

Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory
The Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory is a beautiful oasis in the middle of the city and features seasonal displays of flowers. The seasonal displays include the annual Polar Express display, while continual gardens include a Tropical Garden. The Tropical Garden has palms and orchids blossoming among a waterfall, and the serene Desert Garden. The conservatory is located in the heart of downtown Fort Wayne between the Embassy Theatre and the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.

The History Center
Repository for the items collected by the Allen County-Fort Wayne Historical Society, The History Center has some 23,000 items and documents relating to the history of the city and county. Starting with the Native American cultures that once occupied the land and moving forward through time to the creation of the city and then to the local 19th and 20th century industry, the museum does an excellent job of tracing regional history, incorporating dioramas, hands-on activities and antique items. The downtown museum resides just a block away from both the Fort Wayne Museum of Art and The Lincoln Museum.
