History
The Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto for the first time came to the place which is now termed as Tallahassee sometime in the year 1539 -1540 and found an Apalachee village. Later in 1821, when the United States officially acquired Florida from Spain, the site of Tallahassee was declared as the capital of the territory of Florida. The city was incorporated in the year1825. The city's name is derived from an Apalachee term meaning "old town".

The Challenger Learning Center of Tallahassee is built on a 32,000 square foot land. This center is part of he Florida State University and is established to promote science and technology.
