It has a flag comprising of a white background centred within is an oval shaped seal symbolizing the blue colour of the island, where in two black and white colour seagulls appear. The green outline in the flag represents the landscape of the borough and the white outline defining the residential areas as of the Staten Island. And last but not the least, the words "Staten Island" are written in gold.

And the blue colour at the bottom defines the watery borough. And a gold framing done all around the flag of the island gives it the final touch. Not much has been defined as far as the history of the island counts, how ever the explanation of the island remains incomplete without giving a brief introduction of it. Staten Island was created in the arousing of the last ice age. The first ever European contact with the island was in 1524. Staten Island is the least popular of the five boroughs of New York city, how ever it still is the 3rd largest in measuring the area. Staten Island has at times been referred to as "the forgotten borough" by the residents who felt that they were being neglected by their government. It strives as home to different races, ranging from whites, to Native Americans, blacks, Italian, Hispanics, Asians, Irish, pacific islanders too. Staten Island is what is called an up to date borough from the five boroughs of New York City.

The island also surrounds a lake park that contains a meadow, there are four lakes that are connected by the streams, boating, and fishing not to forget the ice skating rink in season. This lake park maintains the grounds for picnic, playgrounds, sporting, and nature trails and also there is a restaurant available for the people. Visiting the South beach for sunbathing with view of the Atlantic Ocean and of the New York Bay. The visitors spend their time bi cycling and leisurely walk all year through. Even fishing is also permitted from October to May. Another park of Staten Island allows swimming on the beach, fishing and with this it also has the facility of a jogging track along with a bicycle trail.

The facility for boating and fishing is available for the folks all year through. There are lake parks available that provide golf lovers to enjoy their game during their stay on the island. Having golf course to one side, and tennis courts, lockers, showers, restaurant and a clubhouse is all a part of these lake parks. The bottom line is that the recreational activities on the Staten Island are an enough of the attraction for planning the vacation there.

The parkland includes two of the most adventurous hiking trail namely; Blue Trail and White trail and the parks also are preserver of a variety of animal and plant wildlife.
