Dundee - fully named as Dundee City - is the fourth-largest city in Scotland and one of Scotland's 32 local government council areas. The city is hovering over the north bank of the River Tay's estuary which feeds into the North Sea. At present, Dundee has a population of approximately 145,000 inhabitants.

The history of Dundee dates back to the Picts in the Iron Age when the city was a site of many battles. The Royal Scottish National Orchestra regularly performs at Dundee's principal concert auditorium Caird Hall. On 5 March 2004, Dundee was given Fairtrade City status.

Culture
Dundee plays host to several repertory theaters and is home to the Scotland's only full-time repertory ensemble, established in 1930s. One of its alumni, Hollywood actor Brian Cox is a native of the city. Another 'must-visit' entertainment venue is the Dundee Repertory Theatre, known for providing a base for Scottish Dance Theatre.
