On October 1, 2008, Billy Elliot the musical had its opening on the Broadway Productions at the Imperial theatre. The musical at Broadway Productions is designed and directed by the same team that designed and directed London's West End productions.
The young cast members on the Broadway Productions include Kiril Kulish, Trent Kowalik and David Alvarez.
The musical is set in the period during the 1984-85 coal miners strike in the County Durham.The musical mainly revolves around the lead character of the musical, Billy Elliot, who has lost his mother and is 11 years of age. Young Billy sneaks into the girls' ballet class room, without any intention of doing so.
The girls' ballet class is taught by Mrs. Wilkinson. After observing the ballet for quite some time, Billy finds him self influenced and attracted to the dance.
Since then Billy, without the consent of his family, starts attending the ballet class, where his talent is discovered and polished by Mrs. Wilkinson.
