Avenue Q Tickets Information
Avenue Q a block buster hit was originally produced by Jason Moore. The beautiful music is given by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx. Whereas the original book was written by Jeff Whitty. Avenue is choreographed by Ken Roberson. Rick Lyon, who is also an original cast member, designed the puppets. It is remarkable Broadway musical.
It started as an off-Broadway show in March 2003 at the Vineyard Theatre. Avenue Q won season's Lucille Lortel Award for Best Musical when it started. And since July 31, 2003 the show has been on Broadway at the John Golden Theatre.
This show contains songs about Internet porn, racism and difficulties or ups and downs of life. Three main characters are portrayed by puppets. Avenue Q is basically inspired and derived by PBS's Sesame Street with a lot of characters that can be vividly identified as parodies of classic characters of Sesame Street. It also follows the same style as the mother show. As an example the two characters of Avenue Q, Rod and Nicky are true adult versions of Sesame Street's Bert and Ernie. Whereas Trekkie Monster seems like to be based o Cookie Monster character, even the names rhyme. Similarly a lot of other characters of Avenue Q are similar or of same fashion as the classic version Sesame Street.
No doubt this show is paying homage as well as mocking "Sesame Street". In fact I would say that Avenue Q is actually Sesame Street for adults. Yes another very important question. People assume it a show for kids too. Definitely it includes puppets I one thing should be very clear. Besides puppets there is nothing for kids in the show.
I would comment that the show is little inappropriate for kids especially for kids of age 12 and under. This is a great show for teenagers as well as adults as it deals with real life issues. It also includes issues like sex, drinking, and surfing the web for porn.
It's not only a copy of Sesame Street; it is a thoroughly funny and intelligent play I have ever witnessed. Despite the adult theme it's also have some puppet nudity and things referring g to puppet sex. So it's not a show for kids though it's up to the parents to decide that what age of kids can watch this show. And for the reason of adult content included in the show it disclaims any connection to Sesame Workshop or The Jim Henson Company. Though the Lyon and Marx both have worked previously for Sesame Street.
AVENUE Q is the tale of the main character Princeton who is a bright-eyed college graduate. He graduated from collage with B.A in English. He comes to Avenue Q with big dreams in his eyes; he believes that one day he'll reform the world. Though he thinks big but has little money in his bank account and with that sort of money Avenue Q is the only place he can afford.
But the neighborhood seems to be really nice. Together they all struggle to find jobs, dates, and their ever-elusive objectives in life.
In the neighborhood there is Brian who is a sheer comedian and his Japanese fiancee Nicky. She earned two master's degrees in social work as a therapist but could never manage to have any clients. Then there are Rod and Nicky, the ever arguing roommates plus best friends just like Bert and Ernie. Then this show includes Trekkie Monster that resembles Cookie Monster, though Trekkie Monster is addicted to internet porn and all sort of adult content like the Cookie Monster addiction of sweets. And we also have very sweet and cute kindergarten teaching assistant named Kate.
We can safely say that Sesame Street teaches kids and this is in a way a message for adults along with wittiness, satire, classic humor dealing with delicate issue of everyday life.
This wonderful show surprisingly won Tony Award for Best Musical and also Tony Awards for Best Score and Best Book of a Musical in 2004. There was a second production of the show opened on September 8, 2005 in the Broadway theatre. Theatre was built at Wynn Las Vegas Hotel/casino containing 1,200 seat cost about $40 millions to build. The marvelous show doubled the dazzle by playing in this magnificent mansion.
