ACDC
The heavy metal sensation, AC/DC, was formed by its founding members and brothers in relation, Angus and Malcolm Young. The band was formed in November 1973 in Australia, although this wasn't their birth place. Angus and Malcolm was born in Glasgow, Scotland and later moved to Sydney, Australia along with their family. Before Angus and Malcolm came in to the music business, their older brother George Young became the rhythm guitarist of an Australian hit rock band called "The Easybeats" after he learnt to play guitar and became famous for his co-written international hits "Friday on My Mind" and "Love is in the Air". Looking his older brother play guitar, developed Malcolm's interest for music industry as well and he later became the member of "The Velvet Undergoun", which was based in Newcastle, New South Wales.
Later Malcolm and Angus thought of making their own rock and roll band, which led them to the creation of AC/DC. In order to the complete the band; Dave Evans was recruited as the vocalist of the band, while Larry Van Kriedt and Colin Burgess joined the band as bassist and drummer respectively. With this line-up the band took upon its first gig in the same year and performed at a local club. The band's line up kept on changing for the next several years as a number of guitarists and bassists were hired and fired.
The following year, the lead vocalist of the band was replaced as well, and Bon Scott took Evan's place in September 1974. Angus and Malcolm were not satisfied with Dave Evans even before they hired Bon Scott, which is why on several live occasions vocals were provided by Dennis Laughlin.
AC/DC signed its record deal with an Australian Record company, the Albert Productions, and released its first studio album High Voltage in early 1975. After several changes and amendments, band's line up finally stabilized after the release of their first album, which comprised of Malcolm and Angus, Phil Rudd as drummer, Mark Evans as the bassist and Bon Scott as the vocalist of the band. AC/DC's debut album was exclusively released only in New Zealand and Australia and was ranked #7 on Australian Music Album chart.
Band's second album, T.N.T, came out in December of the same year, and contained their hit single that was released prior to the album release, "It's a Long Way to the Top". Apart from that, a cover of Chuck Berry's song "School Days" was also included on the album. Like their previous album, T.N.T was also released in New Zealand and Australia only.
The band started earning its international fame after it signed a record deal with Atlantic Records. The first album that was released internationally by ACDC was High Voltage that contained several tracks from both of their previously released albums. AC/DC's next studio album, "Dirty Deeds Don't Dirt Cheap", was released in two versions, one was exclusive-Australian version that was released on September 20, 1976 and the other was the international version released on December 17 of the same year. The track listing of both versions varied from each other.
AC/DC's line up changed once more as band's bassist Mark Evans was replaced by Cliff Williams. This change in line up was followed by the recording session of their new studio album, "Let There Be Rock", which was released in 1977. Just like their previous album, this one was originally released on Albert Productions in Australia, while later its modified international version followed, with number of variations to the Australian version.
Band lost another one of its vocalists, Bon Scott, who died on February 19, 1980, due to excessive alcohol consumption. After having intentions of quitting the band several time, AC/DC ultimately decided that the show must go on and Brian Johnson was recruited as the lead vocalist of the band in 1980. With Brian Johnson as the lead vocalist, rest of the line up remained unchanged up till today.
With Johnson as the new vocalist, AC/DC released its 7th Studio album, "Back in Black" on July 25, 1980, which became AC/DC's best selling album, and was second on the Best Selling Albums of All Times, after receiving 22x Multi Platinum status.
The last album by AC/DC was released on February 28, 2000 titled "Stiff Upper Lip", and after the longest gap of almost 8 years, the band is scheduled to released its next studio album on October 18, 2008 in Australia, while it will be released internationally on October 20, 2008. The title of the album is "Black Ice" while it'll be produced by Brendan O'Brien and will be released by Columbia Records.
